After discovering a suitcase of old family photographs in the home of her recently deceased grandmother, Lucy Dawkins chose to rephotograph the same spaces in the now empty house. While observing the spaces left behind, each of Dawkin’s visits provoked questions: How and when are our connections to place established? Can a place speak of a person who’s no longer there? What’s left when a room stands bare? Gates Green Road illustrates a fleeting, yet compressed nature of time. By fusing contemporary with vintage images, an empty home is momentarily reactivated. www.lucydawkins.com
